Non-Profit Gears Up for a Challenging Holiday Season The Home for Little Wanderers provides ways to give in a tough economy BOSTON, MA — With the current economic travails, non-profits like The Home for Little Wanderers are preparing for what could be a tough holiday season. As the oldest child and family services agency in the nation and one of the largest in New England, The Home is one of the Commonwealth’s most beloved charities, especially during the holidays. The non-profit’s annual Big Wishes for Little Wanderers Gift Drive has become part of the Massachusetts’ landscape for families across the state. "Every year the Toy Room is flooded with items to fulfill the holiday wish lists of the youth in our care. I think this year we’re going to be struggling to get one holiday wish fulfilled for each child," said Lisa Rowan-Gillis, Vice President of Development and Public Relations, The Home for Little Wanderers. "People are trimming their holiday budgets for their own family and friends and that will trickle down to donations for non-profits." The Home’s President and CEO Joan Wallace-Benjamin is also concerned. "The staff at the Home’s residential programs, in many cases, becomes the family that these kids celebrate the holidays with. The Home’s Big Wishes Gift Drive is one of our most important fundraisers," Wallace-Benjamin explained. "We simply would not be able to provide a gift for each child to unwrap without support from the community. We are making a call to action to local residents and businesses to remember that giving back is more important now than ever." The Home provides five ways that donors can give and get involved this holiday season.
