Mayor Menino and Liz Brunner Kick Off Holiday Auction

Celebrity-signed books and memorabilia to benefit at-risk children

BOSTON —  Mayor Thomas Menino and WCVB-TV’s Liz Brunner kicked off The Home for Little Wanderers’ Gift Drive and Online Auction today. The Mayor and Ms. Brunner, together with The Home’s CEO and President Joan Wallace-Benjamin, read the The Night Before Christmas to over twenty children. Mayor Menino autographed a copy of "the holiday favorite" which will be available along with many other celebrity-signed books and memorabilia at The Home’s online auction.

"The Home for Little Wanderers has been a foundation of support for children and families in the Bay State for over 200 years. With cost of living increases this holiday season, many more families will turn to this wonderful organization for support because paying the heating bill or putting food on the table will come first," said Mayor Menino. "I’m so proud of the good work of The Home, and know that it will continue to be part of the fabric of our community for many more years to come."

In addition to local personalities like Mayor Menino, Jay Leno, Bill Cosby, Henry Winkler, Senator Ted Kennedy and Carolyn Kennedy are among the celebrities who have also supported The Home in donating signed copies of their own children’s books to benefit children at-risk.

The Home’s Holiday Auction is part of The Big Wishes for Little Wanderers annual holiday campaign. Proceeds from the auction will benefit children and families served by The Home, many of whom are victims of abuse and neglect.

The auction and gift drive run now through the middle of December. Please visit www.thehome.org/auction to bid on unique gifts, including restaurant gift certificates and get-aways, or to learn more about how you can give back or donate a gift to a child in need this holiday season.
