KEEP KIDS WARM COAT DRIVE

Help Us Provide Youth At The Home For Little Wanderers With New Winter Coats

   Coat Drive

One warm coat can make a significant difference in the life of a child. The Home for Little Wanderers — the nation’s oldest and one of New England’s largest child and family service agencies — kicks off its Keep Kids Warm Coat Drive on October 15, 2014. Donations can be dropped off at or mailed to The Home’s Roslindale facility at 780 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, MA through November 25, 2014. Each year, The Home’s services touch the lives of more than 7,000 children and families living in at-risk circumstances across Boston and Eastern Massachusetts. With winter just around the corner, the non-profit is committed to fulfilling the warm-coat needs of the children and youth in its care and relies on the community’s generous support for donations.

The Home for Little Wanderers’ Keep Kids Warm Coat Drive accepts donations of new, unworn coats including heavy winter coats, lightweight fall jackets, and rain slickers. Coats are needed for all ages and sizes ranging from birth to young adult, with a particular need for XL and XXL.

“Through The Home’s community-based programs, our staff work closely with families who are struggling with a wide range of financial and mental health challenges. Many families are faced with financial burdens that often leave them with little or nothing after trying to feed their family or paying rent,” said Raechelle Joyner, Program Director, The Home for Little Wanderers’ Hyde Park Community Service Agency. “Although it may seem like only a basic need, a new warm coat means a lot to youth in both The Home’s residential and community-based programs. Wearing a new winter coat will help them stay warm, build self-esteem, and improve school attendance on cold weather days.”

This year The Home is launching a large-scale coat drive due to the increasing needs for winter coats from families, children, and youth they serve. Every coat that The Home for Little Wanderers collects during the Keep Kids Warm Coat Drive goes directly to a child or youth in need. Together with warm coats collected, we are able to prepare children and youth for the cold winter and help them thrive and succeed.
