Toxic Stresses in the lives of children and families

Stress is a normal part of a person’s life, but when a young child is repeatedly exposed to extreme stress or by multiple sources it can have long term negative impacts on children’s mental, emotional and physical health.

Toxic Stressors include:

      • Chronic neglect
      • Substance abuse by a caregiver
      • Mental illness of a caregiver
      • Exposure to violence (domestic or community)
      • Homelessness
