Growing up can be difficult for any child in these times. Most children have guidance, encouragement, a secure home, a loving family and friends. Some aren’t so lucky. Many of the children and teenagers who come to The Home for Little Wanderers have had devastating experiences with abuse and neglect; many struggle with substance abuse; almost all are in emotional turmoil.
The guiding principle at The Home is our belief in the right of all children to be safe, nurtured and developed to reach their full potential. Time and again, we are reminded that, although seemingly insurmountable obstacles are sometimes placed in their way, children’s resilience together with support of caring adults can make anything possible.
Why We Need Your Help
There is ever-increasing competition for public dollars and all too often services for children and youth at risk seem to bear the brunt of cuts. While government funding covers most of the essential services we provide, we need to do so much more to ensure these kids get a fair shot at being prepared to lead meaningful and productive lives. This is why the support of our individual and corporate donors is as critical now as it has been throughout our more than 200-year history.
How We Use Your Help
Your generosity allows us to provide the "extras" that most kids and families take for granted. For example, we can ensure there are enough gifts to go around in the holiday season, serve the traditional Thanksgiving turkey feast to our children in residential care, send some to summer camp, fill their backpacks with school supplies and put warm clothes in their closets. All of this is directly attributable to individuals and organizations who believe, as we do, that children need to know people care about them.
