SPECIAL EDUCATION AT THE HOME FOR LITTLE WANDERERS

The Home for Little Wanderers operatesstate-approved special education programs for children and youth aged 5 to 18 from cities and towns throughout Eastern Massachusetts. The mission of our special education schools is to provide a safe and secure environment that allows all students to reach their fullest social and academic potential. School staff works closely with families and referral sources to ensure that services meet the needs of the whole child.

These schools provide a consistent environment where youth can have their needs met and begin to learn appropriate responses. Structured settings and behavior support systems with clear expectations and positive reinforcements help students learn to manage difficult feelings and control their behavior, focus on their school work, and improve their overall performance. Small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio permit individualized attention, support, consistency, and regular feedback. Each youth has an Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP) as well as an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) when required, both of which clearly spell out the specific goals and objectives to be achieved by the youth and his family. Clinicians are on site five days a week, meet regularly with each child/youth for individual therapy, and work closely with the family to provide therapy and support services. Students in our schools feel safe, valued, challenged, and supported.
