Enhanced Self-Control & Determination

The Home works to empower children to be an advocate for themselves in all different avenues – physical health, mental health, education, and in their community. Often youth view providers, like The Home, as agents of external control which the natural response is to resist or defy the people trying to provide support.

Our program staff uses approaches to treatment that de-emphasizes the use of external control and builds on clients’ internal motivation. Youth are given opportunities to make healthy choices for themselves. We know a child is more likely to succeed in their treatment when their voices are being heard and integrated into their plan. Our staff works with youth to self-regulate to keep them safe when their living at home, in the community, or at one of our group homes.
